Venue of the Week – Ampersand Hotel, London

Ampersand Hotel, London

Originally called the Norfolk hotel and opened in 1889 the Ampersand is a modern reincarnation of the 80 bedroom boutique hotel that once stood in its place. Renovated and re-opened in 2012 the Ampersand is ideally located in the heart of the city’s museum district, with the V&A, Science Museum and the Natural History Museum a stones throw away. If museums aren’t your thing, the Ampersand is a 15 minute walk away from the world famous Harrods department store.

The hotel has grown since 1889, now offering 111 rooms and suites. Each of the rooms follows one of the hotels five central concepts; botany, music, geometry, ornithology and astronomy, its local neighbourhood and proximity to the world famous museums inspire each of these concepts. The rooms aren’t just stylish but also exceptionally practical, each room includes complimentary WIFI, tea and coffee making facilities, soft drinks and a large LCD television, to name but a few of the features. There are five different options of rooms, ranging from Single & Double rooms, inspired by astronomy, to the geometry themed suites.

The hotel only has three meeting rooms on offer, with a maximum capacity of 50 people reception style, so if you’re looking for a boutique hotel to host a large meeting or event, sadly this isn’t the venue for you. However, if you’re looking to arrange creative team meetings and sessions for small teams the rooms all boast lots of natural daylight, high tech audio-visual equipment and quirky décor.

The hotel has two dining options; the Mediterranean style Apero restaurant is regarded as one of Kensington’s best, with a relaxed atmosphere which attracts not just guests of the hotel, but local residents as well. With the Mediterranean style of dining the restaurant offers authentic sharing platters. If you’re looking for a light lunch, the Drawing Rooms is a blend of French finesse and British style, with light bites and afternoon tea it is the perfect setting to enjoy with friends.

All in all this luxurious boutique hotel offers something for everyone and with an ideal location it is well worth a visit when you’re next in London!
