Venue of the Week – Fairmont St Andrews
Opened in 2001 and costing £50 million, the Fairmont St Andrews sits in 520 acres of pristine countryside in the historic Kingdom of Fife. Located an hour and a half away from the country’s capital Edinburgh, and resting on the cliffs overlooking the North Sea, the resort offers some of the most picturesque views in the whole of Scotland.
From the minute enter the hotel you will notice a feeling of old meets new, contemporary design with traditional Scottish touches are the themes that run through the whole hotel and is a nod to historical county in which it sits. Once you have received your key you will make your way to one of the 205 luxury bedrooms where the classic contemporary feel is continued. With a choice of either a king size bed or two queen size beds and with large LCD televisions, bathrobes, coffee and tea making facilities, the rooms are fantastically well equipped and extremely comfortable. The views on offer differ from room to room, but most boast scenic views either out to sea or across one of the two championship golf courses. If you require a bit more space, the hotel also offers 17 suites ranging from the studio suites on the third floor to the Kingdom of Fife suite which covers 141m2, including Jacuzzi bathroom, dining room and private balcony overlooking the coast, St Andrews and the surrounding golf courses.
Hotel amenities are vast at St Andrews with something to fit every need, if you’re looking for a relaxing break the hotel has a luxury spa offering 12 different treatments in their land and sea inspired treatment rooms. Looking to spend time outdoors? Known as the ‘Home of Golf’ the Fairmont St Andrews has two fantastic courses, The Torrance Course, a par 72 and 7230 yards, which hosted the Open Championship qualifiers in 2010 and The Kittock Course, again a par 72 and 7192 yards which is knows as one of the most beautiful in Scotland. In addition to golf the hotel offers horse riding, off road driving, Sailing and local historical visits.
If you’re planning a meeting the hotel has 11 meeting rooms of various sizes, the largest space they have is the Atrium, which can host 1500 delegates for a standing reception or 660 for a banquet. Boasting high ceilings, vast windows with views overlooking the whole resort. The hotel also offers two fantastically well-equipped ballrooms, both named after famous Scottish poets, the Robert Burns and the Robert Louis Stevenson. In addition to the three large meeting spaces the hotel offers rooms that can seat any layout that you require. All meeting spaces have access to the hotel’s terrace where guests can enjoy drinks receptions, barbeques and team building activities, while overlooking the spectacular views of the North Sea and the golf courses. All meeting rooms offer natural daylight, high tech audio and visual equipment and dedicated conference organisers.
The hotel has dining options to suit even the most discerning palate, the St Andrews Bar & Grill serves guests the finest meat and fish that Scotland has to offer, and with views overlooking the St Andrews Bay, it certainly a very special place to enjoy a meal. In addition to the Bar & Grill, St Andrews also has an Italian restaurant, La Cucina, serving traditional Italian cuisine with a contemporary flair. If you’re looking to have an aperitif before your dinner, or a drink after a good day on the course, the hotel has three bars serving the finest single malt scotch whiskey, cocktails and spirits.
